Fred Fredericks, know to many as the artist of Mandrake the Magician from 1965 through to 2002, sadly passed away on the 10th of March this year.
A true legend of the comics field, Fredericks also inked The Phantom Sunday strips from 1995 to 2000 before deciding to concentrate just on Mandrake. After Lee Falk’s death in 1999, Fredericks wrote as well as drew the Mandrake strips through to the strip’s end in 2002.
Retiring in 2013, Fredericks leaves behind him an illustrious career and legions of fans. One such fan, Frank Throne, has written a beautiful tribute to Fredericks which can be seen on the The Comics Journal website.
