How do you source Phantom comics?

Postby AmanKing » Sun Apr 22, 2012 9:40 pm

On another thread, Joe shared some tips about how one can source Phantom comics internationally. I thought the topic is worth a thread of its own... so here you go:

Please share how you get your regular dose of Phantom stories...

I will start...

I live in India. My main source here many years back was Diamond Comics and then, for a short run, Egmont India (now named Euro Books). But today it's very rare to run into Diamond Comics or Indrajals (you find Euro Books comics but they are repeated stories): by "rare" I mean once in 4-5 years (at least for me, as I don't actively scout for comics in the small second-hand book shops you'll need to visit and be lucky).

So today my main source is my own website for the current online Phantom Dailies and Sundays, and also for archives that go back till 2004.

I had left reading the newspaper strips for a few years so I'm happy catching up with the archives at my own pace. That said, I wouldn't mind variety in Phantom stories and am looking forward to sourcing tips from others.

Lately my main Phantom "fix" has been from Last Phantom and the Hermes collections. While I stopped reading Frew regularly a few years ago I do still get the odd issue here and there. As for where I actually buy these books; I get Last Phantom from the comic store, Frew from either the comic store or Newsagent and the Hermes books online from BookDepository as they are by far the best value.

I read the daily strips online via dailyink.

I pick up Frews every few weeks from Kings Comics Sydney AU after work--I work in the Sydney CBD.

Last phantoms etc I order online usually from which ever Australian online book/comics retailer is the cheapest and appears highest in Google.

It is interesting that you can get US publications like Last Phantom in Australia in comic stores... I guess the Phantom is still popular enough for them to be sourced by local stores. I haven't seen these comics in India yet. Is there a price difference between the local store price and the printed price? In India imported graphic novels are expensive.

Any opinions on digital versions from the likes of comixology?

In that case, I request you to checkout my website as well, if you haven't already. It is especially designed to provide DailyInk subscribers a comic-book-like reading experience.

Other digital sources in addition to comixology may include the Facebook group Ivan announced here.
