Phantom Comic Book Survey

Postby AmanKing » Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:16 pm

Recently announced in the Phantom Phorum by Gumby:
Calling all Phantom Phans in Australia, India and Sweden!!!!
http://phantomcomicsurvey.wordpress.com/

"I am looking for English-speaking participants, aged 18-years and over, to answer an online survey that will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. I am seeking people from Australia, India and Sweden who currently read (or who used to read) The Phantom, either as a newspaper/magazine comic-strip, or in comic books – or both. I would also be interested to hear from people in Australia, India and Sweden who have watched film, television or videogame versions of The Phantom, or who have collected Phantom merchandise.

Participation in this survey is completely voluntary and anonymous. No identifying information (such as people’s names or email address) will be collected. You are free to discontinue the survey at any point."

What a great opportunity for all of us to contribute to Kevin's PhD work!!!!

I have already taken the survey. I'd encourage all Phans to participate.

Kevin contacted CC about this for our input. I didn't want to announce anything on the site until Kevin gave the 100% OK, which he did today at lunchtime. You can check out our coverage of his PhD thesis HERE.

I hope the survey submissions already made by some Phans, including myself, are usable by Kevin, even though they were submitted before he was ready to open the survey officially...

No problems, the "unofficial release" was to make sure everything worked fine technically - which it did. Go ahead and invite more people to participate 8-)

I always did think that The Phantom was worthy of serious academic study, so I'm glad that this is happening.

I could of written all day in my response, but I tried to be as concise as possible.

Hi everyone

This is Kevin Patrick, the PHD student at Monash University (Australia), who's undertaking the online survey of international Phantom 'phans' from Australia, India and Sweden, as part of my PhD thesis on the publishing history of The Phantom comic book series.

I just wanted to publicly thank JoeMD @ ChronicleChamber for helping to publicise my research project on his website, and for encouraging CC forum members to participate.

And I'd just like to thank everyone who's completed the survey thus far - be rest assured, those surveys completed before the 'official' launch of my project website/blog and the accompanying online survey are all perfectly valid contributions, and will contribute to my overall analysis of the survey's results.

So, thank you all for your interest and participation thus far - and, please, if you know any friends, family members or work colleagues who currently are (or once were) 'phans' of The Phantom, don't hesitate to direct them to my project website (http://phantomcomicsurvey.wordpress.com/) and the survey (https://www.rationalsurvey.com/s/3088).

I will be posting updates on my project website, and hope to log-in from time to time on the CC Forums and keep you all informed of my research. If you have any questions about the project, feel free to post them on my website, or here at the CC Forums, and I'll do my best to answer them in a timely manner.

Best wishes

- Kevin Patrick

Hi everyone

I just wanted to say I've been really pleased with the level of interest in, and response to, my research project & survey, since the news of its launch was posted here on ChronicleChamber.com. The survey findings have been fascinating thus far, and I'm looking to undertake further online/media promotions to 'get the word out' amongst Phantom 'phans' everywhere.

In the meantime, I've posted a brief article on the Australian debut of The Phantom comic strip on my research project blog, which can be read here:

Enjoy for now, and I'll keep everyone posted on further project developments.

Phantom Comic Book Survey - Now on Facebook, too!

Postby Kevin Patrick » Mon Apr 23, 2012 1:33 pm

Hi everyone

In the interests of promoting my ongoing Phantom Comic Book Survey research project (http://phantomcomicsurvey.wordpress.com/), I've recently created a complementary page on Facebook, titled The Phantom - Comic Book Survey, which can be seen here:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Phant ... 1817790572

I'll be mainly using my Facebook page to try and encourage people to visit my main website, and complete my online readers' survey. In order to retain viewers' interest, I'll be posting more frequent, 'mini-updates' on the Facebook page, which will look at different aspects of Phantom comic-books from Australia, India & Sweden (much of which will be sourced from my personal collection).

I'll still use my main web page to post more detailed updates that relate to specific issues and topics arising from my ongoing PhD research.

Please take the time to visit both pages at your leisure, and feel free to post comments on my main website, or to 'Like' my Facebook page and otherwise help spread the word about this project. The more survey responses I get, the more meaningful my research findings will be!

Thanks again for your time and attention.

Phantom Comic Book Survey - Website & Facebook Page Updates

Postby Kevin Patrick » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:54 pm

Hi everyone

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've made a few recent updates to my Phantom Comic Book Survey website, which may be of interest to "phans", including:

'The Phantom - A "Swedish" Hero?' (Blog posting)
https://phantomcomicsurvey.wordpress.co ... dish-hero/

Web Links - The Phantom
https://phantomcomicsurvey.wordpress.co ... e-phantom/

I'd be keen to hear from forum members of any Phantom-related websites and other online resources that they think should be added to my 'Web Links' page, or other possible subcategories of Phantom-related web links (I've not yet added links for screen adaptations of The Phantom, but I think this is an obvious category to include, which I hope to do in the near future). All suggestions are welcome!

I'm also trying to be a bit more dilligent about updating my Facebook page, but there's one recent link that may be of interest to forum members - an online Swedish newspaper article about the Carlstad Comic Convention held on 26-27 May 2012, which hosted several Fantomen-based events, including a presentation from yours truly, titled 'The Swedish Phantom in Australia', presented on behalf of the Scandinavian Chapter.

To see the article, click here:
http://www.vf.se/nyheter/karlstad/serie ... v-fantomen

(I appear in one of the photos, standing next to Ulf Granberg - retiring Fantomen editor-in-chief - and his successor, Mickael Sol, who has taken over as editor of Fantomen magazine)

To see the Power Point slideshow I prepared to accompany my talk on 'The Swedish Phantom in Australia', click here:

Enjoy!
