Can't find 'King Years Vol 2' on Book Depository

Postby peas_and_corn2 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 5:27 pm

I can't find The King Years vol 1 on The Book Depository. I can find the listing for vol 2, but not for vol 1! Does anyone have a link?

Cheers,
Dave

Something must be wrong. There will be only one volume of the 'King Years' since the King run lasted so few issues. It must be mixed up with the Charlton or Gold Key books.

Perhaps I was just confused by the description. this is the listing, I assumed it was vol 2 because of the description

Collects all 74 issues of "The Phantom" comic books which ran from 1962-1977. This title picks up with "The Phantom, Number 18", and features all "The Phantom" stories from issues numbered 18-28.

...or is it just that 'The King Years' were part of a continuity it picked up from a previous publisher?

Correct. The 74 issues (actually 73, since there was no #29) were published by three different companies.
Read all about it at this link.

Gold Key published #1-17 (this will be published in two volumes by Hermes)
King published #18-28 (all this will be in one volume by Hermes, plus four short Phantom stories that King published in their Mandrake the Magician comic book at the same time)
Charlton published #30-74 (I'm guessing this will be at least four volumes by Hermes)

Ahh, OK. that's weird. I've never heard different publishers picking up the same series of stories; rather different publishers doing their own thing (such as what's being done now with GWW... interesting)
